Ian’s career in construction began many years ago when he started working for his family’s construction business. As he gained more experience, he continued to learn various skills within the residential sector under his father’s guidance. Later, in 1999, Ian joined Brightwell Engineering where he served as a superintendent, project manager, and additional qualifier for 7 years. During his tenure at Brightwell Engineering, Ian learned the ins and outs of what it takes to be successful in the commercial side of construction from Mr. Charlie Brightwell. While working at Brightwell Engineering, Ian opened a small business to gain experience as a business owner and continued to serve his residential clients’ construction needs.
In 2006, he founded IP Builders, Inc. in Walterboro, SC, which quickly grew to incorporate all aspects of construction, including commercial, industrial, historic renovation, institutional, etc.
Ian has two sons that he is very proud to be raising, Gavin and River. Both of his sons have continued to show interest in the family business. Gavin is currently pursuing his education in Structural Engineering at Clemson University, which will hopefully lead to him working at IP Builders full-time in the future. Ian is active in Ashton Baptist Church, Colleton Prep Academy athletics, and the Hudson Masonic Lodge. He and his family reside on their farm, Black Creek Oaks, in Walterboro, SC.
